Day twelve

“Ikissed Leo.”

I shut my eyes tightly, not wanting to see the expression on Peter’s face. The scorn, or even worse, the disappointment.

“That’s not what he told me.”

My eyes flew open.

“What?!”

“The way Leo tells it, he kissed you,” Peter said.

I opened my mouth to refute, but… it was entirely possible that we kissed each other, leaning forward at the same time.

“You… you’re not mad?” I asked in a whisper.

“No, I’m not angry. Perish that thought,” Peter swore solemnly. “I am a bit… jealous…” I winced. Of course he was. “…that I wasn’t the first one to kiss you.”

Did… did I mishear? But no, he really said ‘you’ not ‘Leo’.

“You really want to kiss me?” I asked, my mind spinning. Both of them? Both!?

“I do. But we are still bound by the contract of an employer and an employee. It would be irresponsible for me to kiss you now.” And that was his only issue? I nearly laughed. “Can you deliver the last gift before I kiss you?”

Nothing made sense anymore. But I was a New Yorker, we could take things in stride. I just needed to see where this was going.

“Alright. What’s the last gift?”

“Something I hope Leo keeps and shares with me,” Peter said cryptically. “Would you like for us to take my car, or do you prefer your bike?”

“My bike… I can take you with me if you want?” I offered.

I would have a sense of déjà vu, but unlike Leo, Peter clung to me out of fear and not to be as close as possible. The millionaire withstood the trip bravely but was a bit shaky on his feet when he got off the motorcycle. After a few deep breaths and adjusting his ever-present tie, Peter took point on leading us to Leo’s door.

He was knocking before I could ask where the gift I was supposed to deliver was.

My breath caught in my throat when I saw Leo in the open doorway.

“Leo, I have your last gift here,” Peter smiled.

And pushed me forward, into Leo’s arms.

“That’s a heavy burden of a gift,” Leo complained as I became a dead weight in my shock. “But I suppose I will accept it anyway.”

Something I hope Leo keeps and shares with me, Peter’s description of the gift ran through my mind.

I lifted my head from Leo’s chest and met his gaze.

“Hi,” he said softly.

“Hi,” I responded shyly.

The door clicked shut as Peter entered the flat.

“The last gift has been delivered. Our contract is no more,” he said with terrifying finality.

He made good on his promise to kiss me.

I surged up to twine my tongue with his. Even though Leo didn’t have to hold me up anymore, his arms still tangled around me. He moved behind me, letting my back press against his chest as I was kissed within the inch of my life.

When Peter pulled away, it was to both of us panting.

After a second try, I managed to clear my throat enough to speak.

“Using me as a gift? That’s cheap of you.
